General managerial issues (FAQ2)

Institutions that may undertake a Slavic digital project very widely in terms of the existing infrastructure to manage, carry out and maintain a digital project. The question of existing infrastructure will figure heavily in the level of funding that may be needed.

Another managerial issue that may arise is whether or not to outsource part or all of the project. Certain portions of the project may be out-sourced while other portions can be done in-house.

If there is limited pre-existing digital infractructure in place and the project under consideration is likely to be a one time project, then might make sence to outsource most of the project rather than expend significant portions of the project budget purchasing hardware and software that may not be used for other projects. If however one of the goals of the project is to develop local expertise in various aspects of digital projects, then it may be decided to do more of the project in-house.
