Data storage, access and databases (FAQ15)


Once you have the materials digitized and marked up with metadata, there arises the question of how to store the data long term and make it accessible to end users. If you are using an XML scheme for you metadata, there are many XML database products from which to choose.


Major commercial database software such as Oracle are now fully able to handle Unicode encoded data such as UTF-8 Cyrillic texts.


There is also software such as TIMBER which has been developed specifically for digital projects in academia.
